A "One Another" Life

A “One Another” Life

The New Testament is full of “one another” commands intended to instruct followers of Christ how to live in rich biblical community with one another. Here are four great ones from Romans 12.

Romans 12:4-6:
“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well . . .”

What would it look like for you to interact with others with a sense of “belonging”? How can you serve others through the specific gifts you’ve been given “for doing certain things well”?

Romans 12:10:
“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

How can you demonstrate genuine affection toward others? What are some ways you can honor others through your words or actions?

Romans 12:13:
“When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”

How can you arrange your life in such a way so as to “be ready” to help others? What are some practical ways you can be hospitable to others this week?

Romans 12:16:
“Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!”

In what ways are you tempted to look down on others? In what ways could you grow in Christ-like humility toward others?

May we remember that our motivation in living a “one another” life is that God demonstrated his love toward us through Christ’s death and resurrection while we were still sinners. As we receive God’s love for ourselves, we are filled with his love for others (John 13:35, Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:10-12).
