Chasing Eternity: Wise Words

Chasing Eternity: Wise Words

Embedded throughout the book of Ecclesiastes are examples of wise words, many of which we did not have time to cover in our overview of the book. Below I have listed seven of my favorites:

  1. Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after the wind (4:6).
  2. Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice (4:13).
  3. Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few (5:2).
  4. He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity (5:10).
  5. All the toil of man is for his mouth, yet his appetite is not satisfied (6:7).
  6. Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools (7:9).
  7. Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins(7:20).
