Qualifications of an Elder
With the exception of the qualification that elders be able to teach God’s word, all of the other qualifications can be found at different places in the Bible as characteristics that all followers of Christ are encouraged to be characterized by. Spend some time this week reading over the list of qualifications handed out in Sunday’s worship guide (or click HERE to view online). Here are some questions you can use to interact with the list:
- Which of these categories are strong/healthy in your life right now? What has helped to create that strength/health?
- Which of these categories are weak/unhealthy in your life right now? What has created that? What are some next steps you can take to address these areas?
- Is there a category where you feel stuck, one you have tried to address many times in many ways? Who is someone you can talk to in order to get additional help in this area?
- Are there certain people in your life who come to mind as good examples in certain categories? Be intentional to seek them out and encourage them this week.
- For those with children: which categories are your children strong or weak in? How can you encourage them where they are strong and help them where they are weak?
