A Practice of Patience
1. Redefine: (1) name your expectations (2) past -- I expected to have my test results by now, I expected this project to be done three weeks ago (3) future -- I expect to retire by this age, I expect the holiday get-together to go like this (4) spiritual lesson -- Lewis quote
2. Rehearse: (1) “help me to remember” prayers (2) that you work while I wait (3) that mystery creates long-lasting fruit (4) that I’m not entitled to know everything (5) that strength is created in weakness (6) example of Job (7) waiting as an identity -- increases need for grace (cf. Willard) (8) it is good when uncertainty creates prayer, I can rest knowing God is in control
3. Remind: (1) FAST -- moving from “quiet time” to “waiting time” (2) F -- creating environment of stillness (cf. ambience channels) (3) A -- lists, psalms (cf. psalm/proverb a day) (4) S -- one chapter a day, what’s true about God/me (cf. me slowing down) (5) T -- prayer response, affirming trust
