A Leviticus Life, Part 2: Holy Leaders - SERMON NOTES
Below are Pastor Ben's sermon notes from this past Sunday, in case they may be helpful for further study.
Death (21:1-6, 10-12):
(1) read v.1-2 (2) contact with/mourning for the dead (i.e. self-mutilation) —connected to curse of sin (2) conveying hope in God even in times of sadness (4) same attitude by NT believers through Christ (cf. 1 Thess. 4:13-14) (5) different approach to death for believers (cf. clown nose)

Marriage (21:7-9, 13-15):
(1) read v.7-8 (2) no marrying someone with previous sexual activity —connected to original design for marriage (3) in NT marriages of spiritual leaders to be above reproach (cf. 1 Tim. 3:2) (4) better to do “less for God” and more for your marriage (cf. Spurgeon, Wesley, Tozer, Carey)
Lifestyle (21:16-24):
(1) read v.16-19 (2) list of 12 physical disabilities that disqualified (2) importance of external ritually reflecting internal (3) primary qualifications in NT are spiritual (cf. 1 Tim. 3:1-13) — importance of knowing those who influence you (4) books/podcasts vs. relationships
Integrity (22:1-9):
(1) read v.1-3 (2) ceremonial uncleanness recap of purity framework (3) important because of their role as intercessors (4) points forward to Christ (cf. Hebrews 7:23-27) — Christ our perfect priest (5) spiritual leaders must be sure to “walk their talk” (cf. Andy Griffith citizen’s arrest)
Stewardship (22:10-16):
(1) read v.10 (2) warnings against letting others eat designated food (3) food benefits made available to priests only in certain conditions (3) two lessons — don’t be casual toward the Lord, be good steward of their gifts (4) over-familiarity leads to taking God/others for granted (cf. GWCTD)
Service (22:17-33):
(1) read v.17-20 (2) unblemished sacrifices — no wounds/discolorations, symmetrical parts, right age (3) not appeasing God but recognition of his perfection (4) pointing forward to Christ (cf. Hebrews 10:11-12) — Christ our perfect sacrifice (5) Rom. 12:1 — staff retreat
