Learning from Jesus
If Matthew chapters 8-10 teach us how to live with Jesus, chapters 5-7 teach us how to learn from Jesus. More specifically, Jesus invites us to experience him in seven key ways:
1. Being transformed by him from the inside out (5:1-16)
2. Being made righteous by him in order to live obedient lives (5:17-20)
3. Being obedient to him from the heart (5:21-48)
4. Showing us how to relate properly to God and others (6:1-18)
5. Learning to trust him to meet our needs and give us eternal perspective (6:19-34)
6. Remaining humble before God and others (7:1-12)
7. Understanding him as the only way to God (7:13-29)
If you’re looking for something to read from the Bible, try taking seven days or seven weeks to work through each of these passages. As you do, it may be helpful to turn each of the descriptions above into a personal prayer (i.e. “Lord help me to be transformed by you from the inside out” or “Lord help me to remember that I am made righteous through Christ and not my works” etc.)
