Recommended Psalms

This past Sunday we took a deep dive into Psalm 72, the final chapter in Book 2 of the Psalms, which includes Psalms 42-72. Below I have listed some of my other favorite psalms from Book 2, particularly ones that may be fitting for this season of Advent. Alongside each one I have written a brief description of that psalm’s predominant theme. I hope they are just as encouraging for you as they have been for me!

1. Psalm 42: our souls can be comforted by remembering who the Lord is and what he has done
2. Psalm 46: the Lord is our stability in the midst of unstable times
3. Psalm 52: the Lord’s steadfast love preserves us when we are surrounded by troubles
4. Psalm 56: expressing gratitude to the Lord for his past faithfulness produces endurance in the present
5. Psalms 62-63: cultivating stillness before the Lord produces quiet confidence
6. Psalm 71: the longer we walk with the Lord the more our confidence in him grows
