Intro: ways I and the congregation have been shaped by Tim
Worship (5:15-21): (1) v.19 → importance of singing as Christians (2) Timism → singing only one part of worship (3) this applies to corporate worship (4) applies in a larger way to Christian life → wisdom, using time well, being filled with the Spirit, giving thanks, submitting to one another (5) “mind’s attention and heart’s affection” (6) addressing God, one another in singing (7) cultivating Christ as greatest treasure
Equipping (4:11-16): (1) spiritual leaders help other believers live in their calling → inside/outside the church (2) music → praise team, Leslie (4) youth → me, Brent, me, TW, Collin (5) deacons → hospitality, greeters, coffee, security, ushers (6) missions with Phil R (7) building → knowing who to call when (8) events → set up, tear down (9) always done this “speaking in love” with goal of building up the body
Family (5:25, 6:4): (1) v.25 → a command for husbands to love their wives well (2) v.4 → a command for fathers to shepherd their children according to God’s truth (3) one of the biggest challenges of ministry is balancing it with family health (4) examples → lines blurred at church gatherings and in relationships, non-traditional working times (5) watched Tim work hard at this → y.p. gathering, Grace 101
Humility (3:8-10, 6:5-7): (1) Paul approaches his calling identifying as the “least of the saints” so that the church might be effective in its calling (2) those who are bondservants to Christ “render service” to others “with good will” (3) examples → picking up trash, water in the fridge, straightening the mats, “all ministry lessons learned from mistakes”, thesis on pastoral transition
Interview:
1. How did you wind up at Grace Church? How was it different from previous ministry roles?
2. What are some favorite early memories you have from your first few years at Grace?
3. What are some experiences you’ve had at Grace that you’re most grateful for?
4. What have been some keys to staying healthy and fruitful in ministry for 30 years?
5. What is your dream/prayer/exhortation to our congregation for our next 30 years?
6. What are you most excited about in your next season and how can we pray for you and your family?
Conclusion: elders pray for Tim
