Intro: (1) series recap (2) titanic → maintenance vs. mission (3) three ways to be on mission

A Big Mission (5-7)
(1) v.5 → shift from one stage to next (cf. biblical overview) (2) v.6 →more concerned with their sorrow than God’s purposes (cf. 14:28) (3) examples → firefighter dad called away from fishing trip with son, pyramid-blocking selfie (4) self-interest gets in way of what God calls us to (5) v.7 →next phase an “advantage” to us (6) God chooses when/where/how he wants each of us to exist (cf. role in a play, cf. Acts 13:36)

A Convicting Mission (8-11)
(1) v.8 → HS convicts in three ways (sin, righteousness, judgment) (2) v.9-11 → articulation of gospel through the grid of sin/righteousness/judgment (3) basic premise of pluralism is that all religions are true (4) at some point I must submit to a “trusted professional” (cf. cpap
machine) (5) resisting cultural pluralism → trusting Scripture, inherent goodness, existence of hell, marriage/sexuality, idols of power and wealth (6) 1 Peter 3:15 ( college students)

A Guided Mission (12-15)
(1) v.12 → disciples getting overwhelmed (2) Jesus knows how much we can handle → first glimpse of intimate guidance (cf. big theorem day) (3) HS guidance = truth + comfort (cf.
Rev. 7:17) (4) “things that are to come” → guidance = trusting in Christ, getting specific life answers (5) v.14-15 →disciples responsible for passing gospel on → HS guidance linked to God’s preserved words (6) who/where do you get guidance from, what words are most important to you (cf. ant death spiral)
