Humble Service (1-4): (1) sons of Aaron → two good two not good (2) Lev. 10:1-4 → death due to disregarding God’s holiness (cf. Acts 5) (3) punishment for pretending to honor God (cf. Pharisees) (4) serving well starts with humility (cf. 1 Cor. 1) (6) “Lord how can I grow in humility?” (cf. elder retreat)

Practical Service (5-10): (1) Levites assist priests (cf. elders, deacons) → help/guard/transport (3) every task counts (cf. meals, workdays, clean-up (4) deacons → security (Mario), hospitality (Carla), w. mgmt (Tim B), benev (David M), cnctns (Brent) (6) m. teams → coffee, comm, greeters, ushers, a/v, nursery, Bill

Substitutionary Service (11-13): (1) firstborn originally reserved (cf. Ex. 12) (2) changed during golden calf incident (cf. Ex. 32) (3) v.40-51 → tax for Levite shortage (4) sub Levites point to Christ → while the people paid “ransom” tax, Christ paid ultimate ransom (cf. comm) (6) we serve because Christ served us

Small Service (14-39): (1) census/arrngmnt of Levites (cf. picture) (2) priests on east (3) Kohath → things in tent (4) Gershon → curtains, coverings (5) Merari → frames, posts (6) some get “more important” tasks than others (cf. parable of talents) (7) THE grad speech, pastoring small vs. large (flower vs. tree)

Conclusion: application to evangelism/outside-of-church → wiping down lunchroom tables
