Waiting: Part 2 - SERMON NOTES

Waiting Unpacked (Biscuits)

1. Waiting is hopeful: (1) eager expectation (2) Ps. 27:13-14 -- here/now, recognition of God’s
character (3) have to adjust expectations at times (S,M,A) (4) what do you currently hope for?
2. Waiting is confident: (1) shift -- what feels true to what is true (2) 31:15,23-24 -- circumstances (3) often unconventional (Jeremiah) (4) how’s your confidence?
3. Waiting is patient: (1) enduring painful challenges (2) Ps. 33:18-21 -- trust in the face of struggle (cf. Isaiah 8:17) (3) some folks just slow (Jem eating, 2 Peter 3:9) (4) what feels slow right now?
4. Waiting is receiving: (1) accepting from outside oneself (i.e. open hands) (2) Gal. 5, Jude 21 (3) cultivating active dependence (cf. hummingbirds) (4) dismantling of “production” mindset
5. Waiting is watchful: (1) being on the lookout (cf. security guard) (2) 2 Peter 3:11-13 -- future
focus brings present change (3) becoming close to the Lord through struggle (4) farmer’s biscuit prayer

Waiting Practiced (Psalm 25 -- FAST)

1. Focus: (1) waiting creates questions -- why is this taking so long, am I doing something wrong, does God hear me (cf. v.16-17) (2) redirecting focus (cf. v.1-3) -- role of God’s people
2. Adore: (1) choose to remember the Lord -- from “what’s missing” to “what’s true about God” (cf. v.8-10) (2) role of God’s word, past experiences (3) app of “worshipers” from stmt (4) two lists
3. Seek: (1) asking God for help (cf. v.18-22) (2) role of prayer -- ACTS (cf. children asking parents) (3) trusting the one who knows what we don’t (cf. blind skier) (4) rejecting stoicism and scurrying
4. Trust: (1) leaning into what we know to be true (cf. v.12-15) (2) doesn’t mean that waiting will end soon (cf. “trust structures) (3) protects against spirituality based in emotions, answers, comfort
