Hello Grace family and friends!
We once again have the opportunity to serve the kids and staff at the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Detention Center by providing Thanksgiving Dinner. You can't imagine the joy this brings to them every year. It is a sight to behold...plates piled high with all kinds of food AND THEN, plates running over with desserts! The smiles on their faces is such a blessing to see.
As you can imagine, this is a huge undertaking. It takes lots of hands and help. We are so grateful that there are several churches and organizations helping make this happen, especially the folks at Christ Harbor Church. We are so thankful for them and each one who lends a hand!
There are two ways you can help. First, we need a few volunteers to help serve the meal and visit with the kids. Helpers will need to be at the center Thanksgiving Day between 10:00 - 10:30am. Lunch will be served between 11:00 and 11:30am. If you are 21 years of age or older and are interested in helping, please reach out to Terry (205-242-5199) or me. If possible, we need to know by next Friday, November 7.
Second, I have the responsibility of making sure we have plenty of desserts. As you might imagine, dessert is their favorite part of the meal, especially if it is CHOCOLATE!!! I am reaching out with the opportunity to be part of this blessing. We need volunteers who will prepare a dessert (preferably homemade) - cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, bars, etc.
Here are the dates, times, and locations for delivery:
To Grace Church - TUESDAY, Nov 26, anytime between 9:00am and 3:30pm
To the detention center - anytime WEDNESDAY, Nov 27 - Terry will be there from 7:00am until 3:00pm - delivery can also be made after those hours (just press the buzzer by the front doors)
Thank you in advance for your help in making this day special for these precious young people and the staff - for being the hands and feet of Jesus as we seek to make His love known. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at 205-454-4147 or by email.
We would deeply appreciate your prayers as we coordinate the many activities for the center in the next two months. Our hearts desire is that the kids know that there is a God who knows their name, who loves them, and wants to have a relationship with them...that they can have a different life through Christ. Our first step in that happening is to be the hands, feet, voice, and heart of the Savior in every way we can...even if that is through chocolate. :-) Thank you again.
Blessings,
Nita (and Terry)
